The feathery residents of Boulders Beach have been attracting visitors from around the world, for decade. And it is no wonder why. Penguins in Africa sounds like it should be a hoax. The journey before the destination We drive along the coast towards Simon’s Town, the scenery is spectacular and the sense of wonder fills the air as we pass by. Our destination is about an hours’ drive, with a stop in Kalk Bay to stretch those legs. Our tour drivers prefer the oceanic view, as this is the best route for a coastal experience. We have arrived! We arrive at the beach and the excitement fills the air. Follow the boardwalk through the shrubby vegetation and see who will spot the first penguin of the day. Expect to see these amazing animals up close and personal. The African penguin was initially named the Jackass penguin. It got this name because of its call. It’s a lovely loud sound that closely resembles a donkey braying. Please note that you should not touch or irritate the penguins, as their beaks are sharp and they are still wild animals. The beach The beach itself is secluded and hosts visitors from all over the world. The beach has calm waters and is known as an excellent spot to cool down when the South African summer sun shines onto your skin. Please make sure your sunscreen is packed, your skin is delicate and should be protected from the sun rays. Even South Africans can still walk away from a day at the beach with sun burn or sun stroke. Cloudy days can be especially dangerous for sun stroke, so please lather up no matter what the weather looks like. Just before we go
Take in your fill of time with the penguins. These quirky animals may be slow on the beach, but they sure can propel through the water at quite a speed. We can’t leave without taking a final look at the beautiful town of Simons’ Town. Warren knows the best places to grab lunch where you will be delighted with a spectacular view and amazing food. Before we arrive Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens is a little slice of natural paradise that lies at the heart of Cape Town’s southern suburbs. Join Warren Marks Day Tours so that you and your travelling party will be introduced to the gardens in a personal way. The Gardens is a short drive away, and as we reach the slopes of the mountain, you will be amazed at how breathtaking the scenery is. Kristenbosch is situated on an estate of 528 Hectares, and is home to a wide range of indigenous South African plants. We have arrived At the entrance we meet up with an old friend of Warrens’. He is considered an expert on the Kristenbosch grounds and he will tell you and your circle stories about the Kristenbosch grounds and why it has become such a famous landmark to visit in Cape Town. Kristenbosch is massive in size, which means we need to cover as much ground as we can to be able to see every nook and cranny. We know the best spots for photo opportunities. The garden Kristenbosch Botanic Gardens is known for its fauna and flora. The plant species found here are native to the area. Warren loves standing on the canopy walkway, the “Boomslang” (named after a native tree snake that the Dutch settlers used to let their children play with). This is an amazing viewpoint where you can view the garden grounds and surrounding Cape Town from a birds eye view. The garden consists of many different plant species, from trees to shrubs to plants, many of which can be used for traditional medicines. We can’t forget about the wildlife roaming the garden, and if you are lucky, you might spot some. The more curious critters such as butterflies and birds of all shapes and sizes can be seen all around the garden grounds. Before we leave

See all of Cape Town, all at once, with 360-degree views from the cable car. Local guide Warren Marks can help you make the most of your day trip up Table Mountain. Here’s how: Planning your trip A trip to the top of Table Mountain makes an excellent morning outing in Cape Town. Morning tickets mean you must head up between 08:30 to 13:00. However, you’re welcome to stay on longer if you’re enjoying yourself at the top. If you’d prefer a lie-in, afternoon tickets run from 13:00 till close. Warren can organise your tickets and recommend other suitable activities for an awesome Cape Town day trip. Even the best-made plans to visit Table Mountain can sometimes fall flat. The Cableway is only open when wind speed and visibility cooperate. This is why planning your visit to Table Mountain requires some flexibility. Having a guide like Warren with local knowledge certainly helps too! The temperature on top is at least six degrees Celsius lower than in the city below. Be sure to pack something warm to wear if there’s cloud at the top. Comfortable shoes are also a must, as the summit has many lovely pathways to explore. Activities So, what do you do once you’re up there? Luckily, there’s plenty to see and do on Table Mountain. Table Mountain’s flat summit extends for almost 3 kilometers. The panoramic views of the city and its beaches are entirely unbeatable. Warren can help you identify local landmarks below, like Cape Town Stadium and Castle of Good Hope. On a clear day, you may be able to see as far as the Hottentots Holland Mountains. On the summit, you’ll definitely encounter the dassie. These plump little creatures look similar to guinea pigs. You’ll spot them sunbathing on rocky outcrops, entirely unphased by humans. You won’t see many other animals on Table Mountain, but that doesn’t mean they’re not around. If you’d like to see more of the local animal life, Warren can suggest activities in Cape Town and surrounds. Once you’ve taken in the sights, send a postcard from the very top of Table Mountain. You can purchase stamps and postcards from the shop on the summit. Drop your mail into the bright red postbox and off it goes! Your letter will receive an exclusive Table Mountain stamp to show where it comes from. Facilities

This Western Cape region includes the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl (and many smaller gems). Visit the Cape Winelands for excellent wining and dining, historic buildings and gorgeous scenery. Warren Marks Day tours are ready to take you on a personal experience of the winelands. Here’s what you can look forward to when visiting the Cape Winelands: To eat The Cape Winelands is home to stellar South African fine dining experiences. Franschhoek is South Africa’s culinary capital. First settled by French Hugenots in the 1600s, the valley’s French connection is evident in its dining experiences. Explore the town’s rich French heritage with innovative tasting menus at Le Coin Francais or Le Petit Manoir. Many fine dining experiences in Stellenbosch are found on its wine estates. Rust en Vrede’s remarkable restaurant, housed in a historic wine cellar, is especially worth a visit. For a laidback dining experience, pop in to one of the many Cape Winelands markets. The Blaawklippen Family Market in Stellenbosch is an awesome way to spend a Sunday. Spread a blanket under the trees and enjoy artisanal produce and local wines. The kids will love the jumping castle and adorable petting zoo goats! Franschhoek’s Village Market has also become a local institution enjoyed by young and old. To drink It wouldn’t be called the Cape Winelands if there wasn’t plenty of wine to drink. Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl offer distinct tasting experiences. Each location is renowned for a particular wine style. Tell Warren what you’d like to taste and he can recommend a personalized route for your Winelands day trip. Exploring the Cape Winelands as a family? Warren can advise you on the best family-friendly wine tasting options in the area. Many estates offer plenty of activities to keep kids entertained. For example, Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch is home to Eagle Encounters: a leading bird-of-prey rescue and rehabilitation centre. Little ones can experience the beauty of hawks, falcons and more firsthand. Franschoek’s Grande Provence even gives children their own “wine tasting” experience with grape juice. To do
There are plenty of adventurous ways to get around the Cape Winelands. Cycling allows you to explore the countryside at a leisurely pace and take in the picturesque surroundings. Equestrians can opt to experience the Cape Winelands on horseback. You can even work in a wine tasting (or two)! Warren can coordinate bicycle or horseback day trips in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek or Paarl. Stellenbosch strawberry picking is another memorable Cape Winelands activity, especially for little ones. At Polkadraai Farm in Stellenbosch, the public can fill baskets with fresh strawberries in season. Tractor and pony rides are also a hit! The Cape Fur Seal is curious and playful, a real treat to watch up-close and personal. Making our way As we arrive on the shores of Hout Bay harbor, we board the private ferry which will be escorting us to the island. Along the way our personal guide will give you and your circle the history and facts about the island as well as some guidelines when diving with the seals. The Cape Fur Seal is curious and playful by nature, but it should be taken into consideration that this is a wild animal with very sharp teeth. Under the sea The seals are quite acrobatic underneath the surface of the ocean, but on land, it’s the opposite. You will be allowed to dive with the seals and witness their behavior up close and personal. On arrival, you will receive diving equipment and a safety brief before entering the water. The seals are overjoyed to show you and your circle their latest tricks. Other Wildlife
It’s not just the Cape Fur Seals that inhabit the island. Other wildlife like the African Penguin has been seen nesting on the island. Seven gill sharks have been spotted frequently around the Island and are known for being interactive with the shark cages used in diving. When the sun goes down, we return home with the adrenaline still flowing throughout our bodies and the amazing moments captured in our minds forever. You will reminisce on the wildlife you have spotted, the moments you will never forget and the photos to prove you were there. We provide you with your very own private safari vehicle for you and your circle, with your very own personal guide that has been trained in the ways of the wildlife. It's not just the wildlife you will see, Aquilla is famous for but also the San Bushman rock art and your experienced guide will explain all you need to know about it. Cape Town is a natural beauty on it’s own, as people from all over the world flock to the city’s hustle and bustle. As a local Capetonian, I know all the ins and outs of the city and the wonders it has in store. Our personal Tour An adventure is an experience, and what is better than having a personal experience you and your circle can share alone. We take you on a personal adventure, with your own private vehicle. Your personal guide knows the perfect route for you and your circle to experience Cape Town in a unique way, and did I mention that we tell stories along the way? Table Mountain This natural beauty has been around for millions of years and according to science, she’s still growing. With it’s majestic view and different fauna and flora, no wonder it has been awarded one of the 7 wonders of the world in 2012. We make our way to the top on foot, as I know the best route with the most to see, its advised to wear hiking gear for the climb. Adventure around every corner, it’s the perfect activity for those with an adventurous streak. The real question is, what makes this such a popular attraction? Come along on our private tour and see for yourself. We descend with the Cable car to our next destination, Cape Town Bo-Kaap. Bo-Kaap The BO-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most distinct neighborhoods and there’s so much to see, taste and explore. Your personal tour will take you into the heart of the BO-Kaap, for an up close and personal experience on what it is to be a Cape Malays. So why the brightly painted houses? As a matter of fact, the houses being painted a bright color represents their freedom the residents gained after the end of Apartheid, as they were forced into a designated section far from the ‘white residents’. The Bo-Kaap residents have been around since the 1760’s, after generations, it’s still remarked as a cultural spot that cannot be showcased in a single image. We take the streets into an area known as the Company gardens. Company Gardens This beautiful oasis is right in the centre of Cape Town and is known as the breath of fresh air for the locals. The Company’s Garden was first built as a refreshment station for the trade route that rounded the tip of Africa between Europe and the east. Ships sent by the Dutch East India Company would stop by after months at sea and stock up on fresh produce grown in the garden—hence, “The Company’s Garden”. The garden showcases fauna and flora, as the brown squirrel rules the roost. The Garden is also home to the South African Museum and the Cape Town Holocaust Centre here, where you can view exhibits about the atrocities suffered by Jews during World War II. Beyond that, there are dozens of little historical treasures you’d easily miss if you weren’t looking for them. There is the Rutherford Fountain—which still stands on the original spot where it was erected in 1864—and the well pump embedded in an oak tree which dates back to 1842. There’s also the oldest cultivated tree in South Africa—a saffron pear, propped up on huge steel crutches. The garden has much more to offer, you just need to take a closer look at the surprises waiting around each corner. Now for the next leg of our journey, a VIP Robben Island experience The V&A Waterfront This is our departure point to the world famous Robben Island, where the man himself, Nelson Mandela was an inmate at the correctional facility. The V&A Waterfront is a destination by itself, as it showcases different aspects of the Cape Town lifestyle. We depart from the V&A Harbour on our private ferry, onward to Robben Island. Personal Robben Island Experience As we board the Ferry, the experience begins. The ferries were used to transport staff and political prisoners between the mainland and Robben Island. Your personal guide will enlighten you with stories and facts about what happened on the very Ferry you are boarded on. The sights and experiences along the way to Robben Island cannot be captured in a single photograph. We disembark at Murray’s Bay Harbour situated on the east coast of the Island. Here we meet up with an ex political prisoner, as he takes us around the Island and recalls the true stories that have taken place inside the prison walls. The island’s itself first recorded landing was in 1498 when a group of Portuguese sailors took refuge there and stayed overnight in a cave. Our tour takes us into the cell of Nelson Mandela. He spend 18 years out of the 27 years he was sentenced to in that very cell. Today, it is seen as a monument and a symbol for freedom in South Africa. After an adventure filled day, we head back home. Reminiscing on the memories and unique experience we had, you can without a doubt say your experience was like no other.
Apartheid to this day lingers in the mind’s of the South African people, as there are still traces of this moment in history in the locals. Our Personal Tour I believe that experiences should be personal. You and your circle will have the opportunity to experience the story of Apartheid from those affected first hand while being transported in your own personal vehicle. Your personal guide will take you through the events of Apartheid and you will learn from those affected directly and we will have a look at where Nelson Mandela spend numerous of years behind bars on Robben Island. Apartheid Apartheid is an Afrikaans word which means separateness, and that is exactly what took place. Different races were separated according to their skin color and placed into settlements. The white minority were considered superior. Anyone perceived as ‘non-white’ were allowed to make use of designated areas. These individuals were excluded from ‘whites only’ locations which were indicated by a sign. When it came to voting, it was a white privilege to vote. Voting rights were denied to Coloureds in the same way that they were denied to Blacks from 1950 to 1983. Apartheid is a story with twists and turns throughout, It was a tragic time in the South African history and to this day, the aftermath is seen across the nation. Apartheid ended in 1994 and South Africa has turned over a new page and as you will see, the rainbow nation is alive and well. Nelson Mandela had the biggest influence on the outcome of Apartheid and its demise. Nelson Mandela’s Footsteps Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. Nelson Mandela spent nearly seven decades of his life in the struggle against white minority rule and for a free and democratic non-racial society. On 12 June 1964,Nelson Mandela was accused of treason and sentenced to life in prison. On 11 February 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from Victor Verster Prison after more than 27 years behind bars. He continued to call for peace throughout violent protests and crowd gatherings. One of the most iconic moments in history was the Mandela’s first vote casted in 1994 and the iconic moment when he presented the trophy to the Springbok captain, Francios Pienaar in 1995 when the Springboks won the World Cup. Mandela retired from active political life in June 1999 after his first term of office as president. He received the World Methodist Peace Award in 2000 and many others till his death in 2013.
Nelson Mandela has been proclaimed as the father of the new nation, he dedicated his life to correcting the wrong of the past and his legacy lives on to this day. His message of peace and unification lives on and has made a significant impact on each South African. Warren day tours takes you on an emotional journey through apartheid and you and your circle encounter first hand the stories from ex-prisoners and local township folks that paints you a picture that you have never seen before. We all want to go up the cable car. It's on our bucket list. We drive to the lower cableway station, we battle to find parking and walk to the building. At the station, we wonder what all those people are doing standing around and waiting for. Then it hits us. They are waiting in the queue. One hour, two hours or even three hours waiting time is possible. Summertime and school holidays. Tourists and locals alike are going to push those queues to longer lengths. Here is my list of do's and to beat the queue at the Table Mountain Cableway: Plan ahead!- Buy tickets online ahead of time at www.webtickets.co.za. If you leave the buying of tickets to the Cableway Station, you will be hit by a double queue. One for the ticket office and one for boarding the cable car. - Buy Early Access Tickets. The Early Access tickets are more expensive than the regular fares. The Early Access tickets give you the opportunity to go up a half an hour earlier than the general opening time which is 08h00. A half an hour before the masses. These tickets are only available for Dec and Jan. Also unlike the regular tickets, they are just valid for 2 days. If you don't use them make sure to ask for a refund within the two days. Standard tickets are valid for seven days. - Check the weather forecasts. Do not assume that table Mountain Cableway operates every day. The cableway is very weather dependent. Plan for a good day. Make sure the wind will not be a factor. I use Windguru and Accuweather . This is not a failsafe plan but increases your chances of the cableway running. - For visitors to Cape Town, consider doing this activity at the very first opportunity. This will give you some flexibility during your stay to try again should the weather not be good at first. On the Day!- Recheck the weather. The weather should ideally be clear with low wind. - Go early. During summer, the cableway opens at 08h00. Unless you have Early Access Tickets which allow you up between 07h30 and 08h00. In winter the opening times are 08h30. Please check the www.tablemountain.net for correct times. If you have regular tickets, the summer holiday queue can begin at 07h00. In the school holidays, the line can be at 2 hours by 08h00. - Bring your camera, hat, walking shoes, sunscreen and something warm to wear. It is not unusual for there to be a different temperature at the top of the mountain. Bring some money, There are a gift shop and a food shop at the top. - Enjoy your visit. Walk, eat and drink something. Take lots of photos. But please do not pick flowers, feed the animals or take rocks home as souvenirs. Smoking is only allowed at one area on Table Mountain. That is at the Twelve Apostle Terrace below the shop. Please leave your drone at home. Drones are not allowed in the Nation Park Other Tips!- Table Mountain has a fabulous website. www.tablemountain.net. On this site, you will find holiday specials(mostly for SA citizens) and cableway details. Some of the specials include seniors discount (SA), birthday special (SA), students discount and sundowner special (SA) - There are free guided tours every hour on the hour. Starting at 09h00 until the last one at 15h00. The tours are 30 minutes. The tours leave from the 12 Apostle Terrace, below the Cafe. Learn about the stories, the myths and the facts. Please tip the tour guide. Guided tours can really enhance the experience. - There are free MyCiti shuttle buses from the parking area as you turn into Lower Tafelberg Road. This is the road that takes you to the cableway station. Shuttles depart every 20 minutes, between 07h00 and 19h00. - There is free WI-Fi at both the Upper and Lower Cableway buildings. At the top, go to the Wi-Fi Lounge. Here you can plug in, upload and grab a bite to eat. - For the kids, make sure to get the activity book. These books are handed out at the Lower Station. In the book are fun activities and a treasure hunt map. - The Table Mountain Cableway audio tour is available free via the VoiceMap app. This audio tour can be downloaded from the Apple store or Google Play. The audio tour is run offline, and so you will not use up your mobile data. The audio tour provides entertainment while waiting in the queue and gives you the facts at your own time as you wander around the top.flora and fauna - Besides and functions that you may wish to arrange on the Mountain, Table Mountain Cableway has introduced a High Tea as well as a Sundowner Package. Both of which take place in the Wi-Fi Lounge. I advise you to be wary of arranging functions on top of Table Mountain. The weather in Cape Town and notably Table Mountain can be fickle. Being a First Timer: ‘A ship in a harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for’ – John A. Shedd People often feel the urge to get out, to get moving, to explore a world of unknowns. We were made to seek life experiences, to open our eyes to all things unexpected and places we have not yet explored. There’s something so monumental and thrilling about planning a trip away from home to discover different cities around the world. So many of us forget that we were all beginners at some stage in our lives. For those of you frequent travellers, you guys have got travelling in the bag, and for the travel newbies here is some insight and advice for your very first trip abroad. What To Expect: Firstly, make sure you know whether the location you’ve chosen requires a visa. You can check here if you qualify to stay in Cape Town for 90 days without a visa. Research, let me repeat, research on websites and blogs about the place you intend to visit. Not only do they provide insight but they also often give useful tips about where to go or what to avoid. Another piece of advice is to book in advance. Book your accommodation, transport shuttle services and tours before you arrive. You do not want to get all the way there and be told that tickets are sold out or that accommodation is fully booked. Plan. Create a list of all the attractions you want to see but make sure you’re not trying to do too much with too little time. If you try cramming it all in one trip, you are more likely to remember the stress of planning it all than actually enjoying your vacation. A few must-see attractions in Cape Town include Cape Point, Table Mountain, Robben Island and Boulders Beach. Check out the weather and pack accordingly. More importantly, plan a trip that is aligned with your budget. If you are flying to a destination across the world, expect some jetlag and allow yourself a day or so to get back into the swing of things. Lastly, enjoy it. It will be a once in a lifetime experience that one can’t always describe. So you’re just going to have to jump on the bandwagon, or plane, and feel what it’s like to go overseas for the very first time. So book that Plane ticket:
Ultimately, the real secret to a trip abroad is doing the research beforehand. Being prepared makes all the difference so that you don’t get overwhelmed. You may be wondering how Cape Town got its name? Well as far as we know the story started in 1488 and was originally named the Cape of Storms by Portuguese explorer Bartholomew Dias. It was later renamed to the Cape of Good Hope because of the great optimism created by the opening of a sea route to the East. Over the course of time, it has now become known as our beloved Cape Town. An alternative title, the Mother City, is an affectionate nickname that is widely used among locals and visitors to Cape Town alike.
